Tallahassee, Fla. – Governor-elect Ron DeSantis today announced State Representative Halsey Beshears (R-Monticello) has been chosen to lead the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) for the DeSantis-Nuñez Administration.
“Florida’s trillion-dollar economy is founded on thriving businesses—from the small mom and pop shops to the largest corporations headquartered in the Sunshine State,” said Governor-elect DeSantis. “It is vital to our state’s continued success that we streamline the way we approach business regulation and eliminate the bureaucratic barriers that stifle growth. For that reason, I am proud to announce that I have asked Representative Halsey Beshears to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Throughout his distinguished career, Halsey has been a champion for deregulation and, under his leadership, this agency will become the focal driver that will make Florida a premier destination for entrepreneurs and companies seeking to relocate. Halsey, a nationally recognized regulatory innovator, is the perfect choice to lead DBPR. I am more than confident that his leadership and expertise will bring jobs, economic growth, and continued success to our state.”
Jose Oliva, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives:
“Halsey Beshears is a highly capable leader who has worked tirelessly to unlock more opportunities for Floridians by cutting unnecessary regulations that impede entrepreneurs and small-businesses,” Speaker Oliva said. “He is an excellent choice to lead DBPR and I know will he use that passion and expertise well at Florida’s key regulatory agency.”

Leading Florida Republicans praise selection of Shane Strum as Chief of Staff to the Governor
Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor-elect Ron DeSantis announced hiring former Broward Republican Chairman Shane Strum as Chief of Staff to the Governor. Strum, who served as a transition advisor to Governor Rick Scott and as chief of staff to Governor Charlie Crist, will begin his service to Governor-elect DeSantis and the State of Florida on January 8, 2019.
Following the announcement, leading Florida Republicans praised the selection. Here’s what they had to say:
“Shane Strum is the perfect choice to serve as Chief of Staff. His management expertise in business, education, health care and government will accelerate Governor-elect DeSantis’ bold vision for Florida’s future. From the Republican Party to the private sector, Shane has succeeded in every job he has had. He’ll be ready on day one.”
Congressman Matt Gaetz
“Beyond the fact that Shane Strum is a good man, he is an experienced and capable manager with deep knowledge of state government. His selection ensures that the Governor-elect can hit the ground running.”
Former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Richard Corcoran
“To put it in baseball terms, this pick is a grand slam. Shane Strum is a dedicated public servant who is smart and knows how to get things done. Plus, it’s cool that a past Broward County Republican Executive Committee Chair is now helping to implement Governor-elect DeSantis’ conservative agenda for a better Florida.”
Republican Party of Florida Chairman Blaise Ingoglia
“Shane Strum is a fine leader and knows the process as well as anybody in the state. I was privileged to work with him as Senator-elect Scott transitioned into the Governor’s office in 2010 and saw just how effective he was. I know he will bring his policy expertise, management skills and love for the state to the Governor’s office and will serve Governor-elect DeSantis with excellence.”

DeSantis was in South Florida to Finalize Hiring Shane Strum as Chief of Staff to the Governor
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – During a tour and roundtable event today at the Leon and Leona Brauser Maimonides Academy (BMA), Governor-elect Ron DeSantis discussed the importance of continuing to support and stand with Florida’s Jewish community and asked the legislature to consider making funding for hardening security for at-risk non-public schools recurring in the state budget. BMA has previously received state grants for security hardening to help protect its students and faculty amid an increase in anti-Semitic threats. DeSantis also criticized Airbnb for taking “steps against Israel” with recent business decisions that have been hailed as a victory for the anti-Semitic “Boycott, Divest, Sanctions” movement. The Governor-elect warned the company that if it continues, Florida will look to take steps against them.
Governor-elect DeSantis also highlighted his support for Florida’s school choice scholarship programs, including the Florida Tax-Credit Scholarship Program which covers tuition for about 80 students at BMA.
DeSantis was in Broward to finalize hiring former Broward Republican Chairman Shane Strum as Chief of Staff to the Governor. Strum, who currently serves as senior vice president of the Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Fla., will begin his service to Governor-elect DeSantis and the State of Florida on January 8, 2019.
Prior to joining Memorial Healthcare System, Strum was vice chancellor of business development for Keiser University. Strum’s career also includes serving as a transition advisor to Governor Rick Scott from January to February 2011 and serving as chief of staff to Governor Charlie Crist from October 2009 to January 2011. Additionally, Strum served as a member and chair of the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners from 2001 to 2009.
“I am very pleased to announce that Shane is returning to public service and bringing his expertise to our administration,” said Governor-elect DeSantis. “Having spent many years in both the private and public sector, and previously serving two Florida Governors, Shane will be a great addition to our team.”
Strum earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Tallahassee, Fla. – Following the recount results of the Florida Gubernatorial election reported today, Governor-elect Ron DeSantis released the following statement:
“This afternoon, the Secretary of State received the results of the machine recount from the Florida governor’s race. Those returns remain clear and unambiguous, just as they were on election night, and at every point throughout this process. I remain humbled by your support and the great honor the people of Florida have shown me as I prepare to serve as your next governor.
“Campaigns are meant to be vigorously debated contests of ideas and competing visions for the future. The campaign for governor achieved this objective as evidenced by historic voter turnout from people of all parties across our state.
“But campaigns of ideas must give way to governing and bringing people together to secure Florida’s future. With the campaign now over, that’s where all of my focus will be.
“And, to this end, I invite Mayor Gillum to join me in the days ahead in a conversation about the future of our great state. We have both traveled the state and met Floridians from all walks of life. Sharing these experiences will, I believe, help us unite our state and build toward unity on behalf of the people of Florida.
“In the weeks ahead, we will keep recruiting the best and brightest who want to work to keep Florida on a path of prosperity and opportunity for all. May God bless our great State of Florida.”
